Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri reacts to the change and fulfillment of the Peace Bill, which endangers the independence of the judicial system in the country.
Minister Tahiri's full statement:
The Republic of Kosovo is making efforts to establish a formula on the wage system, and that is more than necessary, but the direction that has taken some regulatory elements ahead of the draft wage bill are in line with the values of a democracy in which powers are divided and equal.
I am deeply concerned with the fact that the regulatory parameters set out in this bill have affected and degraded the salaries of judges and prosecutors, alienating the concept of independence of the judicial system as third and independent powers.
I have expressed and expressed my complete disagreement with the draft proposals that violate the independence of the judiciary.
The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo has envisioned independent judiciary, not influenced by politics in any way, and financial independence is essential to further professionalisation of this sector. Also, I will ask that the Justice Ministry's request be ignored for wages to be raised for civilian staff employed in courts and prosecutors.
I will ask the Parliament Commissions once again to consider carefully the way they treat the judiciary, since this is vital to the functioning of our democracy.
I expect that in the coming days, MPs will reflect and enable the advancement of reforms undertaken in the last year to create a suitable working environment for judges and other professionals, and enable this system to be reliable for the citizens of the country.
