According to the statement, a comprehensive and mutually beneficial agreement is in the strategic interest of the United States.
It also quoted a statement by President Trump in his letter to President Thaci: “I urge you and the leaders of Kosovo to use this unique moment, speak in a unified voice during peace talks, and refrain from actions that may make it more difficult to reach a” agreement.
Some commentators and politicians suggested that Kosovo's status as an independent and sovereign state, and roughly listed with the United States, would protect it from all consequences of its decisions in the international arena. We advise against assuming that Kosovo or any other United States friend can take actions that oppose our strategic interests without facing the consequences for our bilateral relationship”, the statement said.
In this direction, it is added further, “Calling the Heedars from Kosovo and others from the region to show commitment to normalisation; regional peace and stability; and to moving along the path towards European integration. We reiterate our view that an immediate suspension of the fee on imports from Serbia and Bosnia is a move needed to restore the moment in the dialogue process. We also expect other Heeders to take their constructive measures”.
“If the new story has shown, Kosovo is successful when joining from within and entering into partnership with the United States and the EU. We encourage all political parties to contribute constructively to this process. Actions that undermine dialogue, obstacles on the side, and refusal to suspend tariffs all go against US interests. What is needed now is a bold leadership to promote our common goals. That's what helps us maintain a strong bilateral relationship”, completed in the US statement.
