Lawyer Arianan Koci is involved in the debate over whether Halil Kastrati should be promoted to his charity through his association or not.
He says that “is normal for any nongovernmental organisation to advertise its activity.
But Koci gives some recommendations on what matters need to be taken care of under such circumstances.
Here's Koci's full post:
Many criticisms were given this week at the address of the activist and director of the organisation “Balkan Lifes”, with the claim that charity followed by camera is less valuable than what is done. Some even think (whoever has a right to express their opinion) that by such actions, the activist and director of this organization is “being promoted” by misusing the serious financial situation of those in need.
On this matter, I have a different opinion!
The person in question leads a nongovernmental charity that is registered according to laws in power and which has a mission - providing help to those in need!
Forwarding the activities of the NGO with cameras, photos and press reports is a common action for any civil society organisation.
Organisations thus testify to making commitments to current donors and benefit from making other potential donors that can contribute to the collection of funds for future activities.
What organization should take special care of:
1) The privacy of children who appear in photos and videos.
According to international conventions, during the recuperating and taking pictures into its activity, the organisation should expressly take the parents ' consent, suggesting the reason and way of using the child's image. In any circumstance, because of the child's best interest and the possibility of being humiliated, looked at or treated “otherwise” by his peers or others because of his economic-Social state, he is preferred for the organisation of “to correct the faces of children in her bosoms and photos.
2) Avoiding involving and showing politicians in NGO activities. Basically, NGOs develop nonprofit activities. The activities that develop by exposing politicians are turned into advertising and profitable activities for politicians, where the sharing of aid can be seen as “tgt per vote”.
