The request of the United States of America and the European Union for the suspension of customs duties for goods imported from Serbia and Bosnia has in different ways divided the heads of institutions and the current ruling coalition in Kosovo. While representatives of opposition parties in the Kosovo Assembly consider the government, which is led by the prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, as their representatives say, has come to an end.
MPs from the two largest opposition parties, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Vetevendosje Movement say the ruling coalition, linked between the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, the Social Democrat Initiative and several other parties, has been seen from the very beginning as not serious and formed to fulfill political appetites, and, as they say, customer.
MP Armend Zemaj said the LDK considers the Kosovo government has not worked for the country's development and integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
“Sulmet to the state of Kosovo from this government has been made with the attempt to depreciate the Special Court, and now this is continuing with the same action, in full opposition to partners who have supported Kosovo on its journey to freedom of independence, such as the US and the EU. We've always demanded that reasonableness is full that we go to the elections and create a new legitimacy for the Republic of Kosovo and the interests of the country's citizens”, Zemaj said.
According to the LDK, this ruling coalition is undermining the Constitution of the Assembly.
Kosovo's central institutions have still unanimously failed to come up with a clear position on the request of the United States of America and the European Union for the suspension of the customs fee on Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kosovo Assembly Chairman at the same time as Democratic Party of Kosovo head Kadri Veseli so far had the position that the tax should not be lifted, while after a meeting with US Ambassador to Pristina Philip Costnet has said the tax should be suspended for at least 120 days.
MP Arberie Nagavci from the Vetevendosje Movement, speaking to Radio Free Europe, said that after the situation created in recent political developments, the government should not lift the tax, but must resign itself.
“We believe that in no way should the tax withdraw, because it only strengthens our position not only in relation to Serbia, but also in our behaviors and with our international friends. Moreover, I believe that with Serbia there must be full reciprocity in all aspects, in economic, political and all issues that are on the table of discussions”, Nagavci said.
As for government and government, Nagavci considers that it has no legitimacy and the country must go to the polls.
“We believe that this Government should be removed because of numerous scandals, due to the corruption and seizure of the state, but not because of tax”, Nagavci said.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo has expressed its concern, as has Kosovo's gross lack of co-ordination and institutional co-operation, over issues of state interest.
This party has said that such a thing is damaging partnership with the United States of America and Kosovo's position on the international level.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has declared that conditions for suspension or abolishing the tax are not ripe.
Kosovo's government has imposed a 100 per cent customs fee on all goods imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in response to Belgrade and Sarajevo policies in response to Kosovo's independence.
