In a Twitter comment, the president called “a full-time loss” talks with House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer.
He said the two Democrats had responded with a “jo” when he asked whether they were ready to finance a border barrier within a month, if he agreed to end closing the government.
Senator Schumer said the president had suddenly left the meeting hall and called this something “truly unfortunate. ”
Due to disagreements between the two sides for border security funds, a quarter of the federal government has remained closed since 22 December.
President Trump says it belongs to the Democrats “to pass the budget law and reopen the government”. The Democrats, in turn, insist that the government's closure is continuing only because President Trump refuses to give up $5.7 billion in demand for a wall on the border between the United States and Mexico, broadcasts tch.
On Wednesday, President Trump said the Republicans are “legally united” on the issue of building the border wall, though some republican lawmakers have voiced concern for the government's partial closure.
After a meeting at Congress headquarters with Senate republics, the president said there was no “no discussion other than solidarity”.
He is looking into the idea of announcing a national emergency declaration to bypass Congress and secure construction funds for the southern wall. He said he can do that if he fails to secure an agreement with the Democrats.
Meanwhile, as a result of the government's partial closure, some 800 thousand federal employees have been forced to stay at home or work for free.
