Disobedience of Laws as a Source of Human Rights Sin

According to this organisation, interethnic reports, respect for the rights of non-ethnic communities, domestic violence, hate speech to the LGBT community and media freedom are among the main problems facing Kosovo in the field of human rights protection.

Commenting on the findings of the report, the member of the Parliamentary Commission for Human Rights in the Kosovo Assembly, FreedomKatazi, says Kosovo faces serious problems in respecting human rights, as a result of disrespect of laws.

We have many problems that I believe also as the Human Rights Commission should require more monitoring from institutions, agencies and even different forums that would have been brought up differently, would have carried out their duties. The very fact that our laws do not respect even 50 percent of what is written speaks of us as being out of respect for certain human rights in general”, Cateazi said.

The Human Rights Watch report has also identified both domestic violence and the poor response of security institutions.

Adelina Berisha of the Kosovo Women's Network tells Radio Free Europe that during the past year there have been eight murders as a result of domestic violence -- one of them including the murder of Valbona Mark and her daughter, the murder, which, according to Berisha, occurred by police and prosecution negligence.
