Many of Kosovo's businesses are continuing to deceive consumers at prices. The biggest fraud turns out to be the noncompliance of shelf-ark prices. For such fraud, over the past two months alone, the Market Inspectorate, which operates under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, has imposed more than 100 fines, the value of which totals up to 1,000 euros. Meanwhile, 45 procedures in competent courts have been initiated

In the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Gazeta Express has been told that the number of fines pronounced by the consumer fraud market Inspectorate amounts to more than 100.

Until they say the largest number of fines have been declared in the capital.

The number of fines pronounced so far for consumer fraud is 121, and 45 procedures have been initiated in competent courts. The Pristina municipality turns out to be one of the largest number of fines”, MTICE said.

According to this institution, the most frequent fraud to consumers is emerging from noncompliance of shelf and cash prices and from setting prices close to products.

For such fraud, the value of fines against businesses stands at 1,000 euros.

The most frequent fraud to the consumer is: case shelf pricing, don't put prices on shelves, don't verify the scales, don't match the declared weight. The value of fines pronounced on average is 500.00 to 1000 Euro”, says the answers by the MTIA Information Office to Journal Express.

Meanwhile, many of the businesses started with price hikes after taxing 100 percent on products coming from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many of the bread ovens began to raise the prices of bread.

Shortly thereafter, merchants who had exploited the tax were placed under the seat of the authorities.

For this, the Kosovo Competition Authority had also established a group of investigators for monitoring the behaviors of companies that could potentially clash with the Competition Protection Law.

The chairman of the Kosovar Competition Authority, Valon Prestreshi, had told Express that if the actions of the price hikes are confirmed, they were exposed to fines of up to 10% of the year's annual circulation.

“also we as an institution have established a working group of investigators for monitoring the behaviors of companies that could potentially conflict with the Law for the Protection of Competition. If it proves that bakers have co-ordinated their actions to raise the price of bread co-ordinatedly, then they are exposed to fines up to 10% of their annual preliminary turn”, Prestreshi has declared.

On the other hand, he had also indicated the responsibilities of the Kosovo Competition Authority in this case.

The responsibility of the Kosovar Competition Authority is now to prevent companies that co-ordinate their activities and exploit the situation created for price raising in a coordinated manner, by setting purchase or sale prices, or other trade conditions”, has added to others.
