Comparison of Kosovo teachers' salaries to region

The United Education and Science Union of Kosovo from Monday has embarked on a general strike because of the Kosovo Government's failure to meet demands for wage increases.

The single requirement of this union is to increase the 30 percent wage cofficiency of 22 thousand and 569 teachers of pre-university education.

According to data from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, sent the Telegraph, the basic salary for primary school teachers is 421.20 euros, while in high school this salary is 459.95 euros.

The basic wage of a primary school teacher is 421.20 euros, while the salary of a high school educator is 459.95 euros. For primary teachers this salary is 393.22 euros”, the responses sent by the Ministry of Education are reported.

The salary of a teacher in Albania is 477.85 euros.

Albania's Statistics Institute (INSTAT) in the report for the labour market and education shows that a teacher pays 59,921 leks, or 477.85 euros.

The average gross monthly wage for an education employee during 2017 was 59,921m [477.85 euros]. For a salary teacher, the salary was 64,869 leks [517.31], while for a teacher it was 55,968 leks [446.33 euros]”, the INSTAT report reported.

A teacher in northern Macedonia pays 365.74 euros.

The World Economic Forum has made the rankings of ten countries that pay the most teachers based on data published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

From this ranking, Luxembourg is one of the countries where teachers have higher salaries.

The annual salary for teachers in Luxembourg is $79,000, while for experienced ones is up to $137, followed by Switzerland, where the teacher's annual salary in this country is 69,885 and, third, is Germany, where a teacher is paid an annual salary of $6,589.

In fourth place is Norway, followed by Denmark, the US, Spain, Australia, Holland and Canada, ending in tenth place.

$66,865, being second in the world, while Luxembourg is first place, where a teacher's annual salary is $79,000. For those experienced up to $137,000. Germany also ends up on the platform, followed by Norway, Denmark, the United States, Spain, Australia, the Netherlands, and Canada.

According to the Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK), in 2017 the average gross wage in Kosovo, including public sector, private and public-private salaries, was 528 euros.

In 2012 the average gross wage in Kosovo was 431 euros, until 2017 was 528 euros, an increase of 97 euros, or 22.5 percent. While net wage of 384 euros as it was in 2012, has increased to 471 euros in 2017 by 87 euros more or 22.7 percent”, the ASS's data reported, Olography writes.

In the 2019 budget, education spending will be around 292.4m euros, which marks a 10 per cent increase in the sector.
