The waves reached over six feet [2 m] in the coastal town of Palun, as well as on the island of Sulawesi.
Hundreds of others have been reported injured and many others missing.
Horrible videos are published by coastal areas where people seem terrified as they try to quickly abandon their buildings.
Last month, a series of earthquakes struck the Indonesian island of Lombok, where at least 460 people were confirmed dead.
