President Donald Trump heads to the United Nations on Monday to attend annual meetings of world leaders. From the wars, to climate changes, to hunger and disease, topics are not lacking in their program, but the likelihood is that the American president will be the focus of attention, as many participants want to know what it means to progress in the process of eliminating nuclear weapons in North Korea and other important issues.
The ratification of President Trump at the General Assembly last year was a welcome one.
The United States has strength and patience, but if they are forced to defend themselves or its allies, we will have no choice but to completely destroy North Korea. The missile man is on a suicide mission for himself and his regime”, he said.
He stunned the leaders who were accustomed to diplomacy, and many of them expect to see what he will do this time.
It was a TV show, very appropriate for American television networks. Mr. Trump is not meant to attract other world leaders, but to be the focus of attention with bombistic statements on the eve of the November Congress elections. So it's going to be a huge” speech, says Richard Gowan of the UN University Centre for Policy Studies.
Although his attitude was unconventional and not safe, he actually opened the way for dialogue.
Many analysts will follow carefully to see what tone Mr. Trump will use for North Korea in his speech to the Assembly before Tuesday. Kim Jong Un won't be present, but the odds are he'll follow him carefully from Puerto Rican.
State Secretary Mike Pompeo has also invited his North Korean counterpart to meet in New York. On Thursday, Mr. Pompeii will lead a meeting of the UN Security Council. It will inform the performance of discussions with North Korea and will call on other countries to continue the pressure of sanctions until the phenean takes concrete measures for disleariism.
The United States holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council, and President Trump will lead a meeting Wednesday that will be in the nuclear non-proliferation centre and certainly Iran.
“Iran continues to pose a problem. At every dangerous point in the world, Iran seems to have its own traces of”, says Nikki Haley, ambassador of the United States to the UN.
Iran's president will speak before the General Assembly on Tuesday and will hold a press conference just hours after the Security Council session, where Mr. Trump will speak on Wednesday.
Hasan Rouhan is expected to criticise the United States for withdrawing from its 2015 nuclear agreement on Iran and for its decision to restore unilateral sanctions on Tehran.
While many world leaders will be present in New York, there will be some distinct exceptions. Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chinese president will not attend, as will German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
And while the topic of North Korea and Iran can prevail, global urgent issues, including conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, global warming and development, will also be discussed. / VOA/
