The United Nations General Assembly is held in New York from September 18th to October 5th.
Within it gather all world leaders to discuss officially and unofficially the issues that distract them.
President Aleksandar Vucic will come from Serbia. And from Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, although Kosovo is not a member of the UN.
Kosovo has returned to the UN agenda. In fact, in the UN agenda, it has always been, officially and unofficially. But most of it was talked about behind closed doors. The UN policy of information for Kosovo is policy “of closed mouth”. When asking about Kosovo at the UN in New York, officials react as if biting wasps.
Asked today by Deutsche Welle “a will also have talks between Kosovo and Serbia in New York this year, just as last year”, Stéphoan Dujarric, the UN secretary general's press spokesman, again gave a vague response. “I don't know there's any meeting, however I'll ask, he said”.
And Brendan Varma, spokesman for the president of the General Assembly, asked yes by Deutsche Welle whether President Miroslav Lajčac is involved in dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, said “in this position currently at”.
Miroslav Lajčak, has assumed the presidency of the General Assembly last year. He has previously been a diplomat and foreign minister of Slovakia, one of the five European Union countries who has not recognised Kosovo as an independent state.
But from Brussels, Federica Moghrini indicated today that the next meeting, Thaci- Vucic, will take place last week in New York.
It is unclear whether talks between Serbia and Kosovo will be held under the UN or only with US mediation, which holds the Security Council's rotary presidency this month. Officially nothing is said in activities promoted by the US Mission to the United Nations.
Last month, the presidency of the Security Council had the United Kingdom. The quarterly report to the Security Council on the situation in Kosovo was not made. Nor is it expected to take place this month. UN mission chief Karin Pierce demanded an end to the UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK.
Financial expenses are large and can be used in other hot areas. But there are places that oppose UNMIK closure and do not want to leave Kosovo, and leave the US there alone.
