Spain will recognise the Republic of Kosovo as a state, in the event of reaching a final agreement between Pristina and Belgrade. The Spanish state, however, opposes the idea of border sharing as a final solution between the two states.
As the Spanish newspaper “Moncloa) writes, Spain is preparing diplomatic recognition of the Republic of Kosovo.
In the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a historic agreement between the two countries is expected to be reached within four or six months of the dialogue.
And if this agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is reached, Spain will move forward, recognising the independence of the Republic of Kosovo.
The paper writes that Spain opposes Thaci's proposed idea of changing borders, since they think that such a thing can be used as precedent by nationalists in Catalun who may seek international recognition later.
Meanwhile, Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister, Josep Borell, has said earlier that in the event of reaching an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, then even countries that have not recognised the Republic of Kosovo as a state would move forward to make a final decision for recognition.
Borell has also spoken of opposition to the idea of exchanging territories from great powers, saying that Europe is not a place to create homogenous ethnicity.
“Europe is built to live together people of different ethnicities and different cultures”, Barnell said.
