Over 8,000 members currently have Kosovo Police. But their average age is too high.
It's estimated that their average is 45 years old.
This fact is very disturbing for the Kosovo police, so it has long been suggested that there be an early retirement law.
But why it has been five years since its draft has yet to pass even a Government of Kosovo.
Although under the legislative programme, the date for completion of this document is September 20th, only the phase of public discussion has so far been completed.
Four types of retirement were introduced in the new draft law. Thus, regular, disabled, family, and volunteer retirement is preceded.
According to this document, police officers will be able to retire regularly at the age of 55.
Meanwhile, police and inspectorate officials are able to retire even before the age of 55.
Currently, the basic salary of police officials is 370 euros.
While after retirement under this draft law, police officials may be eligible to join the reserve units.
For this draft of this law is the Police Union.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs says they are now under review of the comments given.
Besides, this minister has said they are in the phase of preparing documents to get financial opinion from the Ministry of Finance.
And, in the prime minister's office, they say that once this bill comes, they'll handle it.
Meanwhile, the police union demands that this bill be adopted as soon as it opens up the opportunity to hire new police officials.
