Kitarovic is 50 years old today and married to Jakov Chitarovic. Her husband is an engineer and married in 1996. They have two children, Katarina and Luke. The couple's marriage seems to be steadfast since there has been no news of problems between them or rumors of extramarital relations so far.
Childhood and Education
The Croatian president was born in Reka, Croatia, on April 29th, 1968. She had spent most of her childhood in the village of her parents, Dubravka and Branko, in Lopaku. Her parents had a slaughterhouse and a rocket, whose businesses provided a living. World politics had always intrigued Kolinda as a child.
Once she started education, she had managed to secure a place in one of the American student exchange programs. He graduated from a high school in Los Alamo, U.S.A., in 1986. After returning to Yugoslavia, he had started studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Zagreb University. He had since graduated from the Vienna Diplomatic Academy. Furthermore, he had again secured a scholarship from the Luksic Foundation to Kennedy Governance School at Harvard University. Career
Initially, Kitarovic had become an adviser under the Department for International Co-operation of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Croatia. Later, in 1993, he had joined the Democratic Union of Croatia. In 1997, she had started working as a diplomatic adviser at the Croatian Embassy in Canada.
Tonino Picaula had become Croatia's foreign minister after Croatia's Social Democrat Party had come to power after the 2000 elections. After two years, Kitarovic had joined Croatia's Parliament. Soon she had become Croatia's ambassador to the US on March 8, 2008. The ambassador's position had left in 2000 to become NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy on August 4, 2011.
Kitarovic has won 37.2 per cent of the vote, in the first round, in the 2014-15 presidential election in Croatia. In the second round, it had received 50.7 percent of the vote on January 11, 2015. She became the first woman at the helm of the state in the post-independence period. Once elected president, she had upheld the law on the right to marriage between the LGBTI community. He had supported green initiatives and had given support to the right to abortion.
She never found out what her salary is. There is no record of her wealth.
