The president of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayip Erdoğan, said that institutions responsible for ensuring international security and peace, such as the UN Security Council, are covered in their silence and inactivity in Syria, as was the case earlier in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Rwanda, Yemen, Palestine and Aarakan, reports AA, conveys Kosovo.
Erdoğan arrived last night on an official visit to New York to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly and addressed those present at the Gala Evening Meal organised by the T Foundation U n RKEN.
I have here to tell the bitter truth that there are no institutions, courts or mechanisms in today's world which will protect innocent victims and prosecute criminals, no matter their identity. Institutions responsible for ensuring international security and peace, such as the UN Security Council, are covered in their silence and inactivity in Syria, as was the case earlier in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Rwanda, Yemen, Palestine and Aracan”, Erdoğan said.
Erdoğan also said that the international community has silently watched the massacre of people in Srebrenica, and that two decades later it does the same at Hahop.
He said Turkey has taken on the greatest responsibility when it comes to helping the Syrian people and preventing massive new crimes against civilians in Idlib and other parts of Syria.
Stressing that the opposition should be a party to peace talks for Syria's future, Erdoğan said it has been Turkey's position since the beginning of the war and that Turkey has always been on the side of protecting civilians and creating safe zones.
The Turkish-Russian Agreement for Deilitarised Areas in Idrib is of particular importance. Opposition forces will remain in their area and there will be no room for radical groups”, said President Erdoğan.
