Ali Ahmeti talks about idea of partitioning Kosovo

Democratic Union for Integration Chairman Ali Ahmeti, on last night's TV Klan TV show, also spoke about the issue of changing borders in the region.

Ahmeti expresses his stance that he opposes the partition of Kosovo that according to him produces domino effect.

Even with the International Crisis Group once in my offices I had discussed a proposal about partitioning Kosovo, which I was and I am against this aunt. The division of Kosovo produces domino effect. We want Kosovo to be recognised independently, the Albanians of Macedonia to be part of NATO and the EU, as Albanian people should be. DUI leader has indicated that the Kosovo- Serbia is serious, as it has to do with historical conflicts, because as he commemorates, we have many Albanians from Medvedja and its suburbs displaced and settled in different parts of Kosovo.

He added that “Leposaviq, Zvecan and without Mitrovica, I am speaking hypothetically, at the political boundaries of Medvedja, Bujanci and Presevo, although disagreeing, if we give 13 percent of the territory, then it's a bad deal. The international community is not much against restructuring or redefining borders, but they support a flexible agreement, with which the EU would facilitate. Now the Kosovo-Serbia problem without direct Washington and Brussels engagement cannot be resolved with direct agreement by Pristina and Belgrade”, Ahmeti said

According to him, a more concrete commitment is needed by the US and the EU, because a greater problem and debate is opened.

“Domosdo define borders and close disputes with Serbia, but this, with help from the US State Department and Brussels”, Ahmeti says that Russian and Turkish officials are also involved in the already open talks between Serbia and Kosovo.
