A 7.1 magnitude quake has struck today at 04:04 local time (09:04 GMT) on the eastern part of Peru, the US Geological Supervisor announced. The Epicentre was registered 123 miles [33 km] south of Puerto Esperanza in the Amazon forest at a depth of 609 miles [609 km]. Peru's geophysics Institute has measured the earthquake near the Brazil border with a 7.0 magnitude and a depth of 616 miles [616 km].

According to reports there were no dead or injured.
