He has not specified whether he thinks about the debates that are taking place in Kosovo and Serbia on border corrections and the exchange of the population, but has said such ideas attract numerous risks.
The “in the Balkans is again being talked about correcting borders, in exchange of borders and population. It is as if the lesson is being forgotten that any plan for reforming borders in the Balkans causes negative chain response. Presidents in the Balkans have been exploited and exploited for other purposes in Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Near East, North Africa. These are serious challenges requiring serious investment. To that end investment in defence is the interest the government should take into account”, President Ivanov has declared in a manifestation in the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Macedonian Army.
Ivanov has also warned from, as he has said, various threats, such as crises with immigrants, but also threats by individuals and radical groups, which according to him are intended to undermine society's values.
The territorial state is facing new, not territorial challenges... over the past three years we have witnessed only the beginning of the crisis with immigrants we will face throughout our lives. More and more frequent are threats by individual and radical groups aimed at canceling our priorities and the way we want to live”, the president of Macedonia has declared, warning institutions to be able to reach new challenges in the region and beyond.
