Three citizens this year have been infected by the West Nile virus, one of which has even passed away at the Infective Clinic in Pristina. This virus is being transmitted through the stinging of infected mosquitoes, which feed on horse blood and dead birds. The infection by this virus is considered dangerous because in most cases it can be without symptoms, but it can be fatal for citizens and especially for older persons, the newspaper “Zer” writes today.
Era Piraeus, official for information at the National Institute for Public Health in Kosovo (IKSHPK), has told the newspaper “Zeri” that so far three people in Kosovo are affected by the West Nile virus, where one of them has even passed away. According to her, there have been citizens last year who have been affected by this virus. This virus has actually been affected by three people, from whom one has passed away, one has been treated and then released home, while one person is being treated at the Infectious Clinic. As far as 2017 was concerned, there were two people diagnosed with the West Nile virus”, she said.
According to her, the IKSHPK is prepared to diagnose the disease and submit the epidemiological situation. The risk of Nile virus is possible if people are bitten by mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus. Currently, stings are not large, on the basis of the frequency of showing persons to health institutions”, she said.
