A dry winter has intensified what has been called the worst memory drought in parts of eastern Australia.
NSW produces about a quarter of Australia's agricultural output. It was officially registered as “100% in the drought” on Wednesday.
State and federal governments have provided a $576 million fund $330 million in emergency relief funds.
“There is no person in the state who does not hope to see any rain for our farmers and regional communities”, the minister said NSW for Primary Industries Niall Blair.
South Australia has just experienced the second most dry autumn, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, with rains of 57m (2.24) below average.
Less than 10mm of rain was registered in parts of NSW in July and conditions more dryer than normal conditions are predicted in the coming months.
