The Norwegian Defence Ministry has declared that the move is in line with plans drafted in June, Euronews writes.
Plans to increase the number of marines in Norway from 300 to 700 and move some closer to Russia's border have prompted reactions from Moscow, which called these actions “in a non-friendly manner”.
Oslo's government has been worried about Russia since the crime annexed in 2014. But she has insisted that increasing the US presence is only for training purposes and will not be interpreted as a military escalation.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Ericksen Soereide had told reporters that this decision would not result in the creation of a permanent American base in Norway and has nothing to do with Russia.
