The birthplace of the Turkish-German star Mesut Ozil will soon change the picture where he poses with Germany's fanele with what Ozil looks like with Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan.
We will remove this photo and put it with President Erdogan”, said Devrek Mayor Mustafa Semerci.
Devrek is a district in the northern part of the Turkish province of Zonguldak, which is famous for hand processing of wooden sticks.
The small town has named the main square after Mesut Ozil, following its success in 2014 with Germany, where world champions were declared.
Ozil's family came from the village of Hindrioglu, which football player had visited in 2011 when it was part of Real Madrid.
“We are proud of Mesut's decision to retire from Germany's national.
In this village we all love him and will always support”, the village head Abdurrahman Yanaz said.
Ozil has been sharply criticised after the photo published in May with Turkish President Erdogan.
