Murati: The most distant visa until April 2019

European integration officials expect the European Commission's report, due soon to emerge about visa liberalisation for Kosovo, to be positive but do not expect Kosovars to travel without visas within this year. The positive report is awaiting European integration connoisseur Taulant Kryeziu, who numbers some of the further steps to be taken for the process.

The “must receive a negotiating mandate on the LIEBE Committee, then a negotiating position on the Council is needed, then reconciliation should be taken between the Commission, Parliament and the Council (of Europe). Then there should be a vote in the plenary session of the European Parliament, a vote on the level of EU ambassadors, a vote in the Council of Interior and Justice, meaning that 55 %s of member states should vote, signing ceremony, official newspaper, entry into force. This is the phase of political decision-making after it is passed technical, which is the” report, said European integration connoisseur Taulant Kryeziu for RTV Dukagjin.

Artan Murati, from the Kosovo Democratic Institute, says this decision-making procedure in the EU is standard, which according to him can take months until the final visa removal is final.

This procedure is a standard decision-making procedure in the EU, especially after the Lisbon Treaty. It is a procedure that can take months until complete. That depends also on how quickly the visa liberalisation issue faces the agenda”, Murati said.

He said there is no guarantee that the process could be completed by 2018.

“Should be mentioned that in May 2019 there will be elections for the European Parliament, so that the visa liberalisation issue could be delayed as far as April 2019”, Artan Murati said.

The report on Kosovo for visa liberalisation is expected to be released tomorrow, while on Thursday for visits to Pristina will be Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Dimitros Avramoopoulos.
