France's president, Emmanuel Macron, ordered staff changes following a video showing his assistant now fired by beating up a protestor.
Facing mounting pressure, Macron gathered several ministers Sunday to discuss the issue.
Alexander Benalla, who was Macron's main bodyguard, was seen dragging a woman and then beating a man during the May Day protests in Paris.
He is accused of group violence and of wearing a police symbol illegally. <
Benalla was fired on Friday.
An official said Macro has described the incident as unacceptable “” and has promised it would not go unpunished.
The top presidential official, Alexis Kohler, will oversee the reshuffle of the Macroni office to prevent the incident from repeating, officials said on condition of anonymity.
The French presidency has been accused of having been aware of the incident for some time and that it has tried to cover it, failing to act quickly against Benalla. (rel)
