Jeremic sharply criticises Serbia's leaders: You don't know how to keep Kosovo

People's Party in Serbia leader Vuk Jeremic said the solution for Kosovo should only be sought in accordance with Serbia's Constitution and Resolution 1244, and that other solutions, such as the division of territory, are completely irresponsible. The “who learns something from diplomacy should not be expressed differently. Unfortunately, some of the key people in our state leadership are not behaving similarly”, Jeremic told the Serbian newspaper “Blic”.

Asked if “frozen conflict”, according to him presents solutions and if this is an alternative to the agreement, Jeremic said there is no frozen conflict, as power is trying to present it to intimidate people.

“It is not true that Kosovo's membership in the UN is necessary to normalise life, whether in Kosovo or in the region”, he said, and added that he does not see why a conflict should be implied as an alternative to Kosovo's membership in the United Nations.

Jeremic said that before Kosovo's final status, it must be negotiated for many other things that are of vital interest to Serbia, such as the issue of state and private property, then guarantees for the protection of Serbian cultural heritage.

He said there will no longer be an opportunity to negotiate these important issues if Belgrade establishes signing for Kosovo's membership in the UN.

Jeremic, former foreign affairs minister and former representative of Serbia to the UN, said the “withdrawals of recognition of Kosovo's independence are totally insignificant if Kosovo, with the signing of Serbia, becomes a member of the UN, because with this irreversibly round its international judicial subject.
