After ratification of the demarcation on March 21st of this year, Kosovo leaders began to congratulate citizens of the Republic of Kosovo for visa liberalisation. That is because with the adoption of the Border Sign Agreement with Montenegro, visa liberalisation was seen as “the work committed”.
But this process is not expected to be finalised even this year. The European Commission (KE) has not yet published the recommendation for meeting the latest visa-related criteria, though this was pre-arranged to happen late last month.
Even the Commission for Citizen Freedom, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament has already removed this point from the agenda, where the recommendation issued by the EC was envisioned. This is because the EC has postponed publishing the recommendation for liberalisation for Kosovo, writes “Zeri”.
Such a decision, according to integration process experts, undermines hopes that liberalisation will occur this year.
