Forget yoga! There's a new therapy, and maybe old at the same time, that's getting more and more use in the world every day for therapeutic purposes.
It's called “Bibliotherapy” and it's the simplest thing we can all do: read!
There's no need for special clothing, preparation, gym, exhausting time organization. You read the book anytime.
For the first time, “Bibliotherapy” as a term was used in 1916, in the article “A literary clinic” of “Atlantic Monthly”.
The author spoke there of a “bibliatic institute” located in a church basement, run by a person named Bagster, in which reading was recommended for healing values.
“Bibliotherapy is a new science”, Bagster said. A book, he reasoned, could be stimulant or self-impressive, he might even molest. It can be the soothing syrup or the burning mustard. He, in effect, awakens and carries new life to our seas”.
Today, “Bibliotherapy” has taken various forms, ranging from literature courses in prisons to reading groups for the elderly who suffer from malaria. Sometimes it means sessions for long - separated people who want their reading back, but it may be even simpler than that.
Just sit down and read, for the sake of your mind and health.
