Under the plan adopted by European lawmakers on July 5th, travellers from 60 countries that are not part of the European Union, including Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and most Western Balkan states, will be part of a verifiable process before they reach the Schengen border, using the Information and Authorisation System of Travel to Europe.
Under this plan it is intended to authenticate criminals, terrorists and anyone who poses danger before reaching the EU”, the statement said.
The proposal must also be approved formally by EU member states so that this system can be implemented by 2021, the EU has announced.
The fulfillment of an app is expected to last close to 20 minutes and will cost seven euros, while the same will be free for children under the age of 18.
The bloc has said the European system is similar to the U.S. Electronic System for Travel Authorisation.
