Cavalec currently serves as Deputy Secretary at the European and Eurasian Affairs Office in the State Department with over three decades of experience as diplomas.

Previously served as director of Russia's Office of Affairs, deputy head of the US Mission in U. NCO in Paris, Deputy Assistant Co-ordinator at the Office of European Affairs and Director for the Prevention of Conflicts at the Co-ordinator's Office for Reconstruction and Stabilisation.

Cavalec has finished California University in Berkeley and has a master from Georgetown University.

He speaks fluent French, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
