Just hours after the removal of the previous sand and stone barricade, on the part of the local authorities in northern Mitrovica, as well as the support and presence of Serbia's authorities, on June 18th 2014 local Serbs again established the so-called Peace Park barricade on the main bridge over the Iber River, which divides the south and northern Mitrovica.
Although the removal of the so-called “Parquet of peace” as well as the release of this bridge for circulation is part of the freedom of movement agreement, which has been reached in the talks in Brussels, divisions between Kosovo and Serbia, with the EU mediation, local Serbs had assessed “the Peace Parquer” not as a barricade, but as a protracted hand for reconciliation between Serbs and Mitrovica.
On the other hand, Kosovo institutions have reacted by saying the previous barricades have been replaced with a new one, but only with a different look, and that the move violates the free circulation agreement reached in the dialogue in Brussels.
On June 18th, 2014, when the barricades of the so-called “Peace Park was introduced, Goran Rakiq, chairman of the northern Mitrovica municipality, had stressed that the decision to build the park on the bridge was taken in consultation with Serbia's Government.
On February 10th 2015, then Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, at the meeting with then Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vuciq, within the dialogue in Brussels, had also requested the opening of the central bridge over the Iber River and the removal of the barricade named “Parku peace”.
Later, both Mitrovica mayors, Agim Bahtiri of the southern municipality and Goran Rakiq of the northern municipality, said they have taken over the obligation to find a solution to removing the barricade “Parku peace”.
The so-called Peace Park Barricades” has replaced the previous sand and stone barricade on the main bridge over the Iber River, which was deployed by local Serb residents in July 2011, in a sign of opposition to Pristina's official efforts to impose authority in the north.
Eventually, the so-called Peace Park has left the Serbs themselves on October 26, 2016.
Through bulldozers and with the help of other mechanisms, they have removed the barricade, which has been found near technical school in this part of Kosovo.
