Innaki Urdangarin (50), who lives with Spanish princess Christina and their four children in Switzerland, has gone today to serve a five-year prison sentence of 10 months due to tax evasion, authorities reported.
He is transported to prison in the vicinity of Avilja, about 60 miles [100 km] north of Madrid, the AP broadcast.
The lower court had found Princess Cristina, Urdangar's wife and sister, not guilty of criminal charges, but fined some $32,000 for her involvement in her husband's business. Long ago, the Supreme Court lowered him to half.
The case dates back to 2011, when an investigation into Urdangar's business activities, which mainly included organising sports events for regional governments.
