At a conference held in London, Program for Peace director at Columbia University David Phillips has countered a statement by Serbian President Alexander Vuciq's adviser.
The adviser said they do not recognise the state of Kosovo and that they sit at the table in Brussels to reach a compromise that does not include recognition.
Serbia will never recognise the unilateral declaration of independence and the so-called Kosovo, but we are ready for compromise that does not include recognition”, he said.
Phillips gave the councillor's ears wide open. He reminded him that Kosovo is a state and that Kosovo and Serbia must come out with mutual recognition from the table in Brussels.
“These negotiations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Kosovo must continue and Kosovo should join the UN and other international organisations”.
He also said Serbia should never see Kosovo as an autonomous province again because in talks in Brussels it faces a sovereign state rather than a province.
“should have mutual recognition and Serbia should not see Kosovo as its province because it is not. Kosovo should be recognised as an independent and sovereign state. The end must bring recognition”, Phillips said.
