The country's parliament made final approval in a vote yesterday, which has made far-right campaigns a major victory.
The new law is described by the government as <x0-neutral to religion” and does not amount to major bans in other European countries.
The move comes after France, Belgium, Denmark, Austria and Bulgaria stopped face covers in public.
Some parts of Spain and Italy have also taken measures against facial covers, while judges, civil servants and soldiers in Germany are obliged to remove them for identification.
German far-right official Firefox Geert Wilders has postponed the ban for more than a decade.
However, the stock ban does not apply on public roads, although police may require an individual to remove clothing covering his face for identification.
