The prestigious newspaper The New York Times published days ago an article showing the threat that the Serbian state is becoming its citizens when they refuse to obey the state for their properties.
Bojan Bjelobaba, 38-year-old owner of an auto-larging and an auto-mechanic in Belgrade, has confessed to New York Times how he was threatened by the Serbian state, following his refusal to free his business because the Serbian government has planned to build a park in that part, writes Insyder.
Another couple, Ivan and Vida Timothyovic, who live in the area where the park's construction is planned, have confessed that electricity and water are out because they are refusing to leave their property.
This luxury construction project, including the construction of shopping centres, has become a symbol of the leadership of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq.
The first of Belgrade's municipality has said that with this plan it is determined that Belgrade will return its former glory, as it was before the war.
“We want to restore Belgrade to its former glory and make a big and respected city again after years of embarrassment coming with wars and riots”, said Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali.
The same location where park construction was planned had been the Federal Interior Ministry, where it was hit by NATO aircraft in 1999, where only one ruins remained. Then an Israeli company, AFI Europe Grop, had built three objects.
Two years ago, 231 families were displaced from state property, but some families refused to leave. One night about 30 people disguised with baseball sticks and other equipment had made guards not to be expelled from their property.
