Regional co-operation and the European route are key to the stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans, Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabiq and Republika Macedonia Assembly Chairman Talat Xhaferi concluded today during today's meeting in Belgrade.
Serbia is designated for the development of friendly relations, based on common history and the close traditional ties of the two peoples”, Brnabiq said, adding that with stronger links through regional economic co-operation within the Berlin Process, countries in the region would soon provide conditions for EU integration.
She also stressed that Serbia commits itself to opening Macedonia's negotiations with the EU and to as soon as possible about resolving the bilate dispute between Skopje and Athens over Macedonia's name. According to the statement, the Serbian prime minister during his conversation with Xhaferin stressed that the Brussels Dialogue, Serbia sees the way to find a compromise solution between Belgrade and Pristina.
Talat Xhaferi in the statement to the media stressed that all those issues, which benefit bilateral relations between the two states, have been raised at the meeting.
“We are in the position that we must continue with communication at the highest political level in all institutions, including parliament, governments and the presidents of states, which must be guarantors of the implementation of acts which contract the two states to benefit the citizens”, Xhaferi said.
He added that he has also raised issues for opportunities and relief for the crossing of the border line to citizens in cross-border areas, especially in the Kumanovo-Presevo section, as well as in the Kriva Pallanca and Bosilegrad region, so that citizens do not need to travel to current international border crossings” and have expressed the position that the two governments will continue at government meetings open these issues.
In that sense, as Xhaferi warned, tomorrow on these issues there will be meetings with Presevo municipality institutions, because authorities in Serbia have the mood for finding appropriate elections.
Earlier in the day, Parliament Speaker Xhaferi held a meeting with Serbia's first Parliament on Maja Gojkovic, where he ordered that Macedonia and Serbia's country is in the EU, as well as that the two countries are ready to fulfil their pledges to become part of the European family.
“Macedonia supports Serbia in normalising relations with Kosovo, leading to maintaining regional stability”, Xhaferi said after meeting with Djojkovaj.
