Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic said Turkey is the biggest force and the most powerful state in the Balkans, adding that Turkey's opinion is important, AA reports.
Vucic and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayip Erdoğan, hold a joint press conference after the Summit of the High-level Co-operation Council.
The Serbian president said that in no country has been expected as in Turkey, thanking the Turkish president for that.
Speaking of the July 15, 2016, coup attempt, Vucic said his country never approves acts against democratically elected subjects.
So we openly expressed our opposition and condemned the attack on Turkey's democracy that night of treason. We respect both international law and the legal order of every NATO member state. When we visited parliament today, we could not believe he had been attacked”, Vucic said.
He stressed that Turkish investors do business in many small cities of Serbia, which, according to him, are heading towards a good future. Work will also be developed in the fields of agriculture and livestock, he said.
The Serbian president said that road construction works between Belgrade and Sarajevo are very important for both Serbs and Bosniaks.
“Express my congratulations on the Turkish Stream project. If the gas connection with Ukraine stops, we'll be even more connected. We'll work in every field. Not only in the economy, but also in the social, sports and other fields”, Vucic added.
Furthermore, Vucic said the largest number of tourists in Serbia come from Turkey, and decided to increase the number of tourists between the two countries in 2018.
He thanked Turkey for, as he said, the security and peace he has offered in the Balkans.
Asked how much Turkey-Serbia co-operation will contribute to peace in the Balkans, Vucic said: “Turkey is the force and largest and most powerful state in the Balkans. It's important what Turkey thinks”.
He said his country places importance on what Turkey, Russia, the US, China and the European Union think.
Turkey is in the Balkans and this is very important. If people don't think of Turkey's change, especially in other states, not only as political, but in the field of investments, then I don't have to say any more. Consequently, our relations with Turkey are very important for ensuring partnership, peace and security”, the Serbian president said.
