Kosovo President Hashim Thaci speaks of anti-Western forces in Southeast Europe. He hopes in greater support from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, writes handelsblat.de, who has conducted an interview with her.
Thaci has initially thanked Germany for Kosovo's support and expects much from the Sofia summit.
“We are grateful to Germany for supporting our road and all of the Western Balkans towards the EU. Chancellor Angela Merkel played a central role in the recent agreement between Pristina and Belgrade,” he said, adding that EU enlargement is to avoid dangerous ideological influences and other anti-European and anti-Western forces on the Western Balkans. “At the Sofia summit, we expect respect and treatment equal to all other states in the region. ”
Turkish influence too small of Russian
President Thaci stressed that it is Russia that affects Serbia not to meet agreements between the two countries, while the EU should never tolerate a <x0->Black destruction” on the Balkans.
In the German journalist's question of what he thinks of Turkish influence over the Balkans, he answers:
“compared to Russia, the Turkish impact on the Western Balkans is very small. With Turkey we have reports on the state level, however, decisions are made with discussions by the EU and the US. But of course we want to maintain partnership with Turkey on the basis of common interests. But we will never allow Turkey to increase its influence on our country. We don't tolerate mixing in our inner interests. ”
Regarding visa liberalisation, he hopes that this year Kosovo citizens can travel visa-free across the Schengen area, as all criteria have been met by Kosovo <x0. ”
Regarding domestic issues, Thaci added that Kosovo's economy is on the rise of 4 per cent and hopes for recovery and winter tourism, while also said the government is stable.
In the last question of where we look at Kosovo after ten years, Thaci said: “Kosovo will then be a NATO member. Why not even EU and UN members? We will do anything to achieve this grand goal. ”
