Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has today met with the European Commission delegation, led by Simon Mordue, deputy director general of the Directorate General for Migration, Internal Affairs and State, who have missions to assess the criteria for fighting organised crime and corruption.
At the meeting, Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has announced the delegation's work done in meeting the criteria for visa liberalisation, supporting the Judiciary and Prosecutorial Council with the growth of the budget, so that the same can add their staff and therefore increase capacities in the fight against misuse of public money, as well as the drafting and adoption of a package of laws for the judiciary, which have provided the full independence, accountability and accountability of these institutions, these recommended aspects and constantly requested by the EU.
According to an MD communique, Tahiri has stressed that he is also focused on the policy of confiscating illegally acquired property, the direct responsibility of the Ministry of Justice.
“Confiscating illegally acquired property is a concrete measure that demonstrates the willingness of institutions to fight crime and corruption, so this also represents my primary focus in this direction” has the minister said.
The minister has also announced the assessment team for the work that has been done in drafting the new penal code, the work being done in drafting the new Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the Pack of Anti-Corruption Laws.
Minister Tahiri has once again reconfirmed Kosovo's clear European and integration perspective, stressing that all obligations coming out of this process will be met.
A new moment has indeed been created in the Republic of Kosovo to strengthen rule of law, as well as the fight against corruption and organised crime. This is primarily our duty as institutions in relation to our citizens, with our legal and constitutional obligations, and as such will continue. But at this stage, it is very important and necessary for these efforts to receive their credentials even under the visa liberalisation process. Therefore, for the end, I wish that this mission of yours would have been a good common opportunity, to reconfirm the clear European and integration perspective of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the approach of our citizens, without visas, in the Schengen area within this year, as a necessary initiative to strengthen trust even in justice institutions” has said Minister Tahiri.
