A new study of life on our planet revealed that human species are statistically utterly insignificant on Earth, since they constitute 0.01 percent of living creatures, but through history 83 percent of wildlife and half of all plants disappeared as a result of their actions.
This study classified the impact of all living things on our planet: bacteria are the main life - form (13 percent of all living things), but plants are absolute rulers, representing up to 82 percent of living matter. All other creatures, insects, mushrooms, fish... make up only five percent of Earth's biodiversity.
Surprise is that ocean life only makes one percent of its biodiversity and that most forms of life on Earth are below the surface, the Guardian broadcast.
Professor Ron Milo of the Weizmann Scientific Institute, which led the study, noted that it was strange that there was no scientific assessment of the components of biodiversity on earlier plans and he said he hoped people would understand their dominant role on Earth.
For example, he decided to eat less meat after realizing the effect that the meat industry has on the environment.
