Kuci: Change Consumption on Property Heritage Issue

Having a modern Civil Code will ensure that Kosovo has judicial and judicial co-operation in civil affairs with the member states of the European Union, which will ensure mutual recognition of all civil affairs as the Law for Family, equal heritage and property rights, and doing business in [...]
Thus was said at the information campaign company” Family Law and Heritage Law through the modern Civil Code”, which included Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri and other institutional and expert field representatives.
Much attention from this worker was given the need for changing Kosovo's mentality, especially in family and heritage issues.
In this case Tahiri said the justice system in Kosovo needs reform, and the potential solution is women's economic power.
Starting with the impact that the Civil Code has, Tahiri stressed that the separation of inheritance in relation to women should also be placed at its center, with the goal of economic growth.
It is my belief that under the Civil Code, the main achievement will be the legal provisions referred to heredity so that women can inherit according to law and rights, create capital of economic growth. Let the Kosovo Civil Code, which reflects the contemporary attitudes of Kosovo society, supported society, promotes and empowers women, especially in its role in the family, but also in the benefit of the economic development of the Republic of Kosovo”, Tahiri said.
He added that there are three ways for this: changing economic policies, legislation and attitudes in culture.
The greatest effect on women's empowerment in the economy has legal provisions. These changes should affect property, heritage, and family legislation, especially in terms of property rights, during and after marriage. Of course, policy change is not the only solution. As a society, we need to change current attitudes and be more open to the contribution offered to women”, he added.
From this workshop, the importance of a modern law was supported by former Justice Minister Hajredin Kuci, who said the Civil Code is very important especially in family and inheritance matters.
He appealed that, in addition to the law, work on changing Kosovo's mentality.
We have over 90 percent who give up or don't inherit our daughters and sisters. And I think we should work on the mentality and I think notaries in this direction should be careful about giving up. I'm just saying not to be a formality, what has been so far, but to try to make a slightly more appropriate environment”, he stressed.
While Katarina Grbasa, representative of the EUSR, said the fact that it still speaks of the Civil Code encoding, the process launched in 2014, is evidence of its complexity. She noted once again that the EU Office remains committed to supporting Kosovo in modernisation and harmonisation of the legal framework.
We hope that the Modern Code when completed will help rule the law, and also restore public confidence in the judiciary system. It is also important to stress that we hope that the Code will provide opportunities for further empowering the rights of women and minorities. We believe that the Code will help even in easier implementation of SAA priorities and that it will contribute to the rule of law, stability and development of the country”, she said.
Civil Code representative Alfonz Lentze said a modern Civil Code ensures that no matter what happens in society. As Haxhi Gashi, representative of the Civil Code, announced that they are now in the second phase of the Civil Code.
