For nine years, Kosovo has not joined any United Nations agency

Kosovo is lagging behind in its membership in UN Specialised Agencies. This is about the fact that of the total 15 agencies, Kosovo is a member of only two, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In fact, the latter two have joined in 2009 and since then [...]
In fact, in the latter two, it has joined in 2009, and since then it has not joined anyone else.
These are data recorded in the Group for Jury and Political Studies report on Kosovo's integration into specialised United Nations agencies.
Albana Rexha from the Group for Juridical and Political Studies stressed that Kosovo's membership in specialised UN agencies, but also in other international organisations, would strengthen Kosovo's citizenship and also increase Kosovo's presence in the international arena.
According to her, it would reduce isolation and help the state of Kosovo address its many problems.
In the report, Rexha said they have recorded three important facts that should be considered when the Government applies for membership in these organisations.
According to her, the first is for the number of recognitions to be incompatible and accurate, so that states that have recognised Kosovo also vote in these agencies and states that have recognised Kosovo to be eligible.
Rexha said that on the basis of this analysis, they have identified three UN agencies which the Government should prioritise membership in, because membership is much easier, compared to other agencies.
While in the medium term, according to the report, Kosovo should prioritize three other agencies, that meteorological one, the International Telecommunications Union and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
According to Raja, membership in these agencies is more difficult, as two thirds of the votes of present states are needed.
Some recommendations have also been made in this report.
GLPS recommends that Kosovo should target membership in WHO and the International Agricultural Development Fund, as both are very important for Kosovo.
Likewise, GLPS recommends that Kosovo join the Bern and Paris conventions and deposit a signature with the aim of ratifying and joining the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
