Kosovo Constitution risks remaining without “garde”

Kosovo's constitution risks being left without “guardian”, since the Constitutional Court after less than a month will have no quorum for decision making. The Constitutional Court is expected to remain without quorum in decision-making after June 15th of this year. This after the Kosovo Assembly failed to elect three Albanian judges over the past week, while procedures until the vote again take considerable time.
The Constitutional Court has a total of nine judges, but since three of them complete the mandate on 15 June, the Court remains with only 6. And to have quorum under the Law for the Constitutional Court, 7 judges in all must be present.
From the Kosovo Assembly have reported to the newspaper “Voice” that the competition for judges' application has been reopened yesterday, but members of the Commission for Legislation say that by the next vote may last long, perhaps by the fall of this year.
On the other hand, the Constitutional Court has confirmed to “Zen” that this court will have no quorum for decision making after June 15th 2018.
During June, four judges at the Constitutional Court, among which two international judges are expected to be completed.
