The Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) expresses deep concern and indignation over the recent non-parliamentary actions displayed in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, either verbal or even physical confrontations between deputies Xhavit Haliti and Arben Gashi.
It is unacceptable that the Parliament's deputies insult each other and physically clash. Moreover, violence and physical confrontation seriously violate values that would have to represent the highest body in the country. The Kosovo Assembly as the highest state institution should serve as a country to promote the values of democracy and human rights, not to transform into the arena where clashes and insults are normal”, it is said in response.
KDI considers it unacceptable to try to stop free speech in the Parliament, especially the tendency to provoke attacks and physical confrontation among MPs. The Kosovo Assembly in the last three years largely has failed to fulfil its functions, precisely because of political clashes. This country is also inefficient, at least it needs such scenes, which undoubtedly represent drastic violations of the goal of voting which these MPs have accepted by citizens”, is said to be further.
The Kosovo Assembly reportedly should not return to the arena of keeping personal accounts using mutual accusations and denigratory discurs, which conflicts with the constitutional obligations of the elected.
Therefore, KDI seeks to take immediate measures against MPs who irresponsiblely denigrate the work of the Assembly and the trust of their voters”, the KDI response said.
