Israeli troops have shot dozens of Palestinian goalkeepers at the Gaza border on Monday, until the opening ceremony of the US Embassy in Jerusalem continued to be celebrated by American and Israeli officials.
Guatemala's president, Jimmy Morales and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the opening of the embassy in western Jerusalem.
It's not random that Guatemala has opened the embassy in Jerusalem among the first. You're always from the first. You are the second country you've known Israel”, Natanjahu said, referring to the founding of the Israeli state in 1948, reports “Reuters”, Periscopi broadcast.
Morales said his country, Israel and the United States “share friendship, courage and loyalty”.
Jerusalem's status is one of the most severe obstacles to creating a peace agreement between Israel and Palestinians, who with broad international support want East Jerusalem, conquered by Israel in the 1967 Middle East War.
Israel views the whole city as its own and the eastern part that it had conquered in the 1967 conflict.
Powerful world states do not recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, for according to them its status must be resolved through peaceful negotiations.
On the day the United States officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem, Israeli soldiers have killed 60 Palestinians during protests in Gaza. /Periscopi/
