Former Supreme Commander of NATO Allied Forces in Europe Wesley K. Clark, has said economic development is more than important to prove to others that Kosovo is a democratic state.
He further said he expects Kosovo and Serbia to normalise relations between the two states to open the doors to be part of the European Union family:
I'm the one who saw how we got Serbian forces out of here. Now Kosovo is automatically independent and sovereign state”.
” I am curious about Kosovo's future. I would like to see Kosovo be part of the European Union. But also, I would like to see how Kosovo gives young people a job in their country, then young people would come back to contribute here.
I want to see that a reconciliation agreement between Kosovo and Serbia has been reached by which to normalise relations between myself. And that both states be part of the European Union”.
General Wesley Clark clarified some of the criteria Kosovo needs for establishing the army, while stressing that there is something more important for Kosovo that needs to be dealt with more seriously.
The” has spent almost 20 years, some of the memories have faded, but Kosovo must move faster”.
” We still have KFOR here that conveys security in Kosovo. I believe the main order to establish an army is to have as many people as necessary to keep the country safe”.
If I were in Kosovo, I'd be more engaged in economic development, not military establishment. The best way to prove that you are democratic Kosovo is opportunities and economic development. Give young people employment options”.
These statements by General Clark, who is currently in Kosovo, were given during his speech as a special guest of the Gallic Foundation's dinner called” Supports the Future Review of Success”, organised by RTI.
Clark led NATO forces to victory in a 78-day campaign against the Milosevic regime.
The action, supported by the planning of land forces intervention and a diplomatic process, in its final task as NATO Allied Allied Commander in Europe Wesley Clark saved 1.5 million Kosovo Albanians from ethnic cleansing.
