Spanish prosecutors are considering opening legal acts against the newly elected Catalan prime minister, Quim Torra, for hate speech, reports El Pais, the Periscopi broadcast.
The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Crimes of Hatred and Discrimination is analyzing a series of articles and tweets from Torra in recent years, in which he was furious at the Catalians who still feel Spanish, but also the Spanish in general. In one case, he has compared them to animals, using the term “bisks”.
Two private groups -- the rightist Vox party and the Movement against Intolerance -- have filed complaints against Torras of hate crimes described in the 510 section of the Spanish criminal code, condemning the language of hatred, hostility, discrimination or violence against a certain group. ”
Torra, a fiery separatist who has promised to continue the path of unilateral division, will take office today after taking the oath as prime minister. He was voted 66 votes Monday, out of 65 votes, in the Catalan parliament, after being nominated by Carles Puidgemont, who is in Germany, fighting extradition to Spain where he would be tried for rebellion and misuse of funds in connection with last year's declaration of independence.
