Britain's 104-year-old professor was forced to take a plane from his home in western Australia to Switzerland, where the country allows for voluntary death assistance, while Australia has been banned by law.
In his final hours, Goodall enjoyed his favorite meal; fish with fries; and a milkcake.
In the last few minutes, he listened to Beethoven's ninth Symphony and shortly thereafter passed away.
To end his life, Goodall rotated a mechanism that allowed the deadly transfusion to flow into the blood through a serum needle in the arm.
The assisted death, where patients take the final decision to end their lives, is legal in Canada, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland and parts of the US.
Goodall, world - renowned botanist and ecologist, had campaigned in his country to allow euthanasia for the sick, allowing the death of the sick.
Although Goodall was not sick, he had seen his consciousness and mobility deteriorate considerably in recent years and said his life stopped being satisfactory “pe or 10 years ago”.
The scientist demanded that his body be donated to medicine or, if not possible, that his ashes be scattered to Switzerland. He wanted no funeral, memorial service or ceremony, since there was no “Faith in the afterlife.
