The latest report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute shows that $1.73 trillion were invested in military purposes over the past year, which marks growth compared to 2016.
Fenomen is the most sensitive in the Middle East. Seven out of 10 countries with the highest level of arms spending, compared to their gross domestic product, are from this region.
These include Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Kuwait and Lebanon. “Experts SIPRI” argues that countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates are prepared to invest large sums of money in their military budgets, which is considered a clear sign of how these states view their position in the region.
