The European Union will respond decisively and unifiedly if the US imposes taxes on steel and aluminum exports, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed today, visiting Lisbon.

“Sanctions studied by US President Donald Trump are not the rules of the World Trade Organisation”, she underlined.
The US administration is preparing to announce the application of additional customs duties for the import of European steel and aluminum since today, a day before the final date for the expulsion granted by Washington for the EU, “Wall Street Journal” confirmed today.
US President Donald Trump had announced in March additional customs duties of 25% for steel and 10% for aluminum before excluding several US allies.
The provisional exclusion from which the EU at the moment benefited ends on Friday (June 1st), and Europeans have not ceased -- these past weeks -- to seek a permanent exception.
