The patient was a woman suffering pain in her arm and on her left shoulder. Tests showed a tumoric lesion in the shoulder (humerus), which led doctors to believe that it was a case of bone cancer, but further tests indicated that the woman had no cancer. What is most surprising is that the X - rays showed how the hummerus and the ulna (one of the forearm bones) had disappeared.
How was that possible?
The reason is that the woman suffered from a extremely rare disease called Gorham-Stout, or known as the decaying bone syndrome.
This disease has diagnosed 62 cases so far.
This disease is characterized by an abnormal increase in lymphatic channels or vats that cause bone decay and that are replaced by tumoral tissue but not by malaria.
The cause of this disease is unknown. The disease does not appear in all patients in the same form.
Some are affected only by localized areas of the body and concrete bones, but others are affected by such sensitive areas as spinal cord and later by general paralysis. /The horizon. al
